EPE #5 - Psalms and Creation

One of the psalm-prayers used in Morning Prayer for Sunday Week III is:

Lord, extolled in the heights by angelic powers, you are also praised by all earth’s creatures, each in its own way. With all the splendor of heavenly worship, you still delight in such tokens of love as earth can offer. May heaven and earth together acclaim you as King; may the praise that is sung in heaven resound in the heart of every creature on earth.

Often we humans think that the world evolves around us and that everything that God made was/is made for our use. That view may be accurate to some extent, but as the psalm-prayer acknowledges, the main purpose of each of God’s creatures is to offer God praise. Amazing!

Exercise: What is your attitude towards God’s creatures? Do you respect or exploit? Do you have understanding or fear? By trying to respect and understand, the praise we offer is blended with the praise from each of God’s creatures, resulting in an earthly orchestra of praise. (What a neat image!) When one has respect and values creation, one recognizes God’s works and therefore gives Glory to God! “Attitude is Everything!”
